Intoducing the Asus Ecobook

The Bamboo Laptop

The Asus Ecobook

Recently I did a post on the greener gadgets conference which amongst its array of innovative and environmentally minded gizmos featured a Bamboo phone that ran on kinetic energy.

Aesthetically taking a similar appearance, now after much strategizing and testing, digital developer Asus has delivered an eco friendly notebook that wears it’s purpose on the outside.

The Ecobook is housed in a bamboo shell that immediately classifies it as unique in the crowd. The green designed housing might as well be flashing neon lights for the statement it makes.

The Ecobook goes to Everest

From the Asus website:
“On the surface, the EcoBook represents yet another triumph in a longstanding tradition of materials innovation by ASUS. Evolving from the use of polycarbonate, aluminum-magnesium alloy, carbon fiber and leather in earlier notebook models, each material bringing its own unique combination of physical and aesthetic properties that enhance the look, feel and durability of ASUS notebooks, the EcoBook is a concept notebook that is the world’s first to use bamboo paneling.”

Naturally its not all about looks though, it’s about performance and unfortunately at the moment because of the prototype nature of the project I have failed to find any of the vital statistics (Eg: Processors, RAM, ROM etc)

Stay tuned though, as more information emerges there will be updates. For the time being enjoy the pretty picture.

Funky idea but I wonder what its durability would be like.

Hi Arnold,

According to the official site I linked they took one the Asus Ecobooks up Everest. From the site:
"That the EcoBook successfully accompanied a Mount Everest expedition is litmus proof for the EcoBook's robustness, even under extreme conditions."

Also talking about Bamboo from the official site:
"As a natural material, each piece is unique, making each EcoBook distinct from another. It can undergo several treatments to achieve a variety of colors or even laser etched with designs limited only by the imagination. It is also tough and resilient. Moreover, bamboo is found in abundance, grows very quickly, and as opposed to plastic, it is biodegradable."

Hope that answers the question Arnold....I'm just curious what it has under the pimped out hood?

Nice laptop! I have been pricing Asus EEEs all summer, saving my money (yes, I have to save up for a $300 computer). I would love to have the Ecobook. I want an Asus with Linux (who needs power under the hood?)

Any update on the sale of these? Probably a limited edition. Although, I know that bamboo is super durable, way more than some of plastic components out there. Funny mountainclimbing pic.
