These days, portable MP3 players are common pieces of gadgets people carry around with them on a daily basis. The popularity of products like the iPod has revolutionised the way we listen to and carry our music so it comes as no surprise that other tech-whizzes are scrambling over themselves to find ways to cater for our everyday items like Apple's venerable MP3 player.
Despite carrying their own range of MP3 players, electronic giants Sony also realises that the iPod are by far and large the most popular player on the market and by catering for this external product, they can in return, increase the popularity of their own products like the Xplod range of car stereos which has a healthy fan-base in its own right. Four new Xplod in-dash head units have just been released that offers direct connection to compatible iPod music players, allowing users to charge and control their iPod devices on the road via Xplod head units for the first time.
The top-of-the-line unit (model CDX-GT630UI) is Sony’s first car stereo that can connect directly to iPod players, other digital music players and USB thumb drives via a USB connection. It also includes Sony’s unique ZAPPIN function, which offers a way of searching and listening to music.
The head unit can connect to the iPod or other digital music players via a USB port thus allowing users to control and charge their devices and enjoy exceptional sound quality. It also supports the iPhone!
While some head units also offers connectivity to external music players, users can only control their music player via its control pad but the Sony head unit’s Quick-BrowZer feature allows users to control and select music via the “rotate and push” button. It also has the Jump Mode feature that helps users quickly search through even the largest music libraries and quickly find the tracks they are looking for, and Passenger Control which allows passengers to control the connected iPod itself while being charged. Additionally, the head unit’s DM technology enhances the sound quality of compressed audio files.
The three other new Sony head units from the Xplod range includes the CDX-GT430IP, CDX-GT330 and CDX-GT130 and they all come with an interface that allows for control of most iPod players.
Prices for the new Xplod range starts from US$80 for the CDX-GT130 and up to US$160 for the top-of-the-range CDX-GT630UI with sales starting in September. [sony.com]
