Coby PMP7040 has monstrous display
September 25th 2006 00:42
Most portable media players come with a screen size that remains within the region of 4.3" or so in order to keep the size down, but Coby's PMP7040 model takes a different approach by offering screen real estate that matches those found in portable DVD players, measuring a full 7".
Granted, the huge display size will definitely affect its portability, but the Coby PMP7040 will offer a much better viewing experience if that is any consolation to portability evangelists. Features of the PMP7040 are nothing to shout about as it comes with a pair of built-in speakers, support for MPEG 4, WMA, and MP3 formats, a photo viewer, and a 40GB hard drive. You can pick up the Coby PMP7040 for $329.95 from B & H Photo and Video.

Samsung have put one of them into their up-and-coming new UMPC, which also boasts a 7" screen. Since it is a UMPC, I can understand, but for a PMP, isn't 7" getting a little ridiculous? Surely 5" will suffice? Even 4" (ahem-fullvideoiPod-ahem) would be excellent. There's a point where portability is sacrificed.
