Most portable media players come with a screen size that remains within the region of 4.3" or so in order to keep the size down, but Coby's PMP7040 model takes a different approach by offering screen real estate that matches those found in portable DVD players, measuring a full 7".

Granted, the huge display size will definitely affect its portability, but the Coby PMP7040 will offer a much better viewing experience if that is any consolation to portability evangelists. Now if only companies would realise that 40gb is nowhere near enough. Surely with the new 32gb NAND Flash drives, they can stick a couple of those in there and get 96gb without taking up much room. Not sure if they're power hungry, but they're damn big.

Samsung have put one of them into their up-and-coming new UMPC, which also boasts a 7" screen. Since it is a UMPC, I can understand, but for a PMP, isn't 7" getting a little ridiculous? Surely 5" will suffice? Even 4" (ahem-fullvideoiPod-ahem) would be excellent. There's a point where portability is sacrificed.

Some people like it big at the expense of portability like you mentioned. Well, as long as there is demand for such devices, we will see them available in the market. I personally prefer something smaller, but watching portable video could be tough on your hands in the long haul.
