Apple iPod Touch ver. 2

September 11th 2008 00:45
Apple iPod Touch version 2

Together with the fourth generation iPod Nano, the iPod Touch ver.2 was also unveiled by Apple CEO Steve Jobs at a special event in San Francisco.

So what's new?

Well, the new iPod Touch is slimmer, lighter, sleeker and sexier than the original. The contoured enclosure is made of polished steel which looks bloody fantastic but will no doubt be a nightmare to keep clean. There are some great additions like the volume control buttons on the left side which provides quick access to one of the most frequently used controls and the built-in speaker which is great for casual listening and sharing something with a mate without having to use headphones.

Battery life has been improved to provide up to 36 and 6 hours of audio and video playback respectively.

Perhaps the biggest innovation for the iPod Touch ver. 2 is the built-in Nike iPod support. You can now use your iPod Touch to track your running time, distance and calories burned by using the Nike iPod Sensor (available separately). Just slip the sensor into your Nike shoe and start your run and let the devices communicate wirelessly - it's that simple. All this data can then be transferred to the PC via iTunes and uploaded onto nikeplus.com for time keeping, monitoring etc.

4th-Gen Apple iPod Nano Revealed

September 10th 2008 07:30
Apple iPod Nano 4G

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has taken the wraps off the fourth generation Apple iPod Nano complete with a return to the thin chewing gum strips of the second-gen version albeit in a more svelte, curved, all-aluminium and glass design.

The new curved and oval-shaped Nano is designed with ergonomics in mind and fits much nicer in the hand while the new accelerometer "rock and roll over" function is a welcome addition to the range and allows the 4G Nano to be listened, watched and played in new ways. The built-in maze game using the accelerometer is brilliant and comparable to the Apps available in the App Store for the iPhone.

Finding a song you want to hear has never been easier - just press and hold the centre button to browse by album or artist. When you find the right song, press the centre button again to add it to your on-the-go playlist.

Another new feature utilising the accelerometer is the "shake to shuffle" function which shuffles to a different song in your music library by, of course, shaking the Nano. It also smartly disables itself when the screen is off or when the hold button is switched on.

Photos can now be viewed in portrait or landscape mode and movies have never been crisper than on the 2-inch widescreen and 320 x 240 resolution display.

And finally the iPod Nano is now available in a range of nine colours: Black, Silver, Purple, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red and Fucshia and two storage capacities: 8GB (2000 songs) or 16GB (4000 songs).

Microsoft's new 8GB Zune in Blue

September 9th 2008 00:40
Blue 8GB Zune

Big news if you're a fan of the colour blue and Microsoft's Zune MP3 player - here's the...erm...blue Zune 8GB music player for those that prefer something different from the trademark black or whatever colour is available from the palette.

Rumours of the mythical blue Zune has done the rounds on cyberspace for a year but nothing has substantiated until now - perhaps MS thought it would actually be wise to capitalise on the hype afterall? As with all Zune players, the 8GB blue zone comes with an in-built FM tuner and Buy from FM capabilities (the option that enables users to tag songs on the radio for easy purchasing when they arrive back at their PC). There's also wireless sync, Zune to Zune wireless sharing, video playback and all the rest of the Zune goodies.

Also available in silver, the 8BG Zune holds up to 2,000 songs, 25,000 pictures, or 25 hours of video. [frys.com]
